Welcome to Math 101! This course is an introduction to the study of Calculus, an essential set of tools for people in many disciplines. Calculus is relatively young for a mathematical discipline (about 300 years!). It helps to answer questions about things that are changing, such as the position of an orbiting planet or the price of a stock. We will start by refreshing our skills manipulating the basic functions we will need, and then add to our toolkit throughout the semester, until you can answer questions about how the force between two atoms changes as their distance increases or about how the rate of circulation changes in a growing child.
